2 weeks agoThis plaza and monument pay tribute to the fight for and success of the Ghanaian people in achieving independence. The large plaza serves as a huge venue with seating for public events, political activities, celebrations, and other large events. Enjoy the symbols of freedom and the significance of the colors of the flag and the meaning of the black star

3 months agoCurious about history or just love iconic landmarks? Independence Square/Black Star Square, is a must-visit. This historic site, built to commemorate Ghana’s independence, is one of the largest city squares in the world. Its most striking feature is the Black Star Gate, a powerful symbol of freedom and African unity. Standing beneath it, you can’t help but feel the pride and resilience of a nation that paved the way for many others on the continent. The square is perfect for soaking in the atmosphere, taking pictures, or just enjoying the open space. It’s especially vibrant during national celebrations and events, where the square comes alive with parades, music, and cultural displays. Even on quieter days, its calm ambiance and rich history make it worth the visit. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Accra. Whether you’re exploring on your own or with friends, it’s a great way to experience a piece of Ghana’s heritage. 9/10.

2 months agoIts free to visit, an open space with lots of emphasis on the black star of Ghana, the Gold Coast. You can sit in the stands or take a photo at the arch. There are some photographers onsite, which is kinda nice... A 15mins walk from here takes you to most of the Museums, give or take. Protip. Have an umbrella if you'd like a walk.
