The mausoleum is the place where the mortal remains of Nkrumah have been interred for the third time in the past 39 years. The body was first buried in Guinea before being brought to Nkroful and later to the mausoleum, its final resting place. It also houses the mortal remains of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s wife Fathia Nkrumah.

2 months agoThe Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is a deeply inspiring and beautifully maintained tribute to Ghana’s first president and his legacy. Located in the heart of Accra, the park offers a serene atmosphere with its lush gardens, reflective pools, and striking architecture. The centerpiece, a towering statue of Kwame Nkrumah, stands as a powerful reminder of his leadership and contributions to Ghana’s independence. The adjoining museum provides fascinating insights into his life and achievements, showcasing personal artifacts, photographs, and historical documents. The park is not only a place of learning but also a space for quiet reflection and appreciation of Ghana’s rich history. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply looking for a peaceful spot in the city, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is a must-visit destination.

2 months agoA really great place to learn about Ghana's history through that of its first Prime Minister and first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah. A journey through his life to inspire the Panafrican in you. Clean museum, welcoming guides. Heads up, the entrance is actually at the rear end when you come from the Independence Square. Highly recommend.

a week agoWe engaged a guide to tour the memorial to the activist who worked for independence and unity of Ghana, dedicated in 1992. Our group of 17 toured the statue, Museum, Gardens, and Mausoleum, that symbolically sits on the grounds of the former British polo grounds, and the site of declaration of independence occurred Dr. Kwame Nkrumah presided as Ghana president from 1957 to 1966 Most of the structures were fabricated from Italian marble. The structures are topped with the black star, which symbolizes the unity in Ghana. The mausoleum contains the tombs of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fathia. The statue of his headless body has a distinct display for his head, which was found separate from his body. The refreshing gardens and pool offer greenery, and a symbol of hope for the future. Accessible mens and women's restrooms. Accessible parking in front lot

a month agoThe Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, Ghana, is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the country’s rich history and the legacy of its first president. The park is beautifully landscaped, offering a serene atmosphere for reflection and learning. At the center, you’ll find Nkrumah's mausoleum, where the late president and his wife are laid to rest. The structure is both architecturally striking and symbolic of Ghana's fight for independence. The park also houses a museum that showcases various artifacts, photographs, and exhibits dedicated to Nkrumah’s life and contributions to the independence movement. The museum does an excellent job of presenting his vision for Ghana and Africa as a whole, with a focus on Pan-Africanism and the quest for unity across the continent. For those interested in history, the guided tours are informative, offering deep insights into Nkrumah’s leadership and his impact on not just Ghana, but the broader African independence movement. Overall, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is an educational and inspirational visit, offering a unique glimpse into the life and legacy of one of Africa's most significant leaders.

4 months agoThis place is well kept, maintained, and a must-visit when you are in Accra. The entry fee is very much affordable only if you're a local. We had a tour guide tell us about Kwame's life history as well as show us around the museum and park. The entire tour didn't last up to an hour anyway.
